What do we mean by Family Science?

Family science engages young children and their families in hands-on, fun activities that explore the natural world, fostering curiosity, learning, and quality time together.

It’s about parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, and primary caregivers joining in their children’s play, listening to their questions and ideas, and sharing their own.

Science is all about…

Science begins with curiosity—wondering about how things work and why. In guiding a child’s curiosity, families can use an introductory version of the scientific method, such as the one below:

  • Wondering and asking questions
  • Exploring and experimenting
  • Observing results
  • Sharing information with others
  • Using resources to find more information
  • Being curious, persistent, and creative
